Western Medicine and Oriental Medicine

Dear Readers: Common among the public is the image of Western Medicine as scientific and has strong foundation, whereas Oriental Medicine is something of mystical nature and does not have firm foundation is a misconception, and in actuality, it is the opposite. Oriental Medicine has the strong foundation, always pursuing the fundamental, and it is lasting for more than 2000 years, whereas Western Medi- cine has a specialized field of treatment and the knowledge, but lacks the central core, therefore its principle changes time to time. Western Medicine is the selected specialized field of treatment, and Oriental Medicine is the Tai Chi (holistic) treatment which places the five organs and six subordinate organs (zang fu* system) as the core principle for treatment. It is based on the clinically proven principle that by treating the root cause of illness, major and peripheral symptoms naturally disappear. The "med**" in Oriental Medicine means to activate the natural healing power of the body, therefore Oriental Medicine does not strive to establish a new theory or a method one after another, but it is intrinsically spiritual and sacred in nature. *Zang fu organs:  five zang = Heart, Liver, Kidney, Spleen, and Lung six fu = small intestine, gall bladder, stomach, large intestine, bladder, and San Jiao (or pericardium, according to some)
**"Yi" (医)
